Congratulations Scandle Team Members! Are you wondering what we are talking about? Well...you have successfully survived the last few holiday months and you can finally take a deep relaxing breath…right before you jump into planning for Valentines Day. Whether you’re planning for a loved one, for your kids and their Valentines, or for your loyal clientele; it’s a big day that requires almost as much pre-planning as the just heroically completed holidays. While you’re carefully (or not so carefully) packing away your holiday decorations, don’t forget to pull all the red and pink to the front of the attic in preparation for next month. You may be planning for your Valentine's Day already, but if you need a little assistance, Scandle can help you with our Starter Sets!
There are quite a few different opinions on the beginning of Valentine’s Day, but there is no concrete proof on which one is correct. Many believe that Valentine’s Day started off as a Roman fertility festival called the “Feast of Lupercalia” where fertility rites were conducted by the local priests. Part of the festival was dedicated to connecting the youth together. Young women would place their names in an urn and the local bachelors would each choose a name and become paired for the year with his chosen woman. These matches often ended in marriage. Now that's an easy way to find Mr. or Miss Right!
Others believe that Valentine’s Day is in celebration of Saint Valentine who was martyred by the Catholic Church. One of the popular versions says that he was a priest who served during the third century in Rome. When Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families, he outlawed marriage for young men. Valentine, realizing the injustice of the decree, denied Claudius and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. When Valentine’s actions were discovered, Claudius ordered that he be put to death.
There are other opinions, but what can't be denied is that there are approximately 150 million Valentine’s Day cards exchanged annually, making Valentine’s Day the second most popular card-sending holiday after Christmas (history).
This time of the year, loved ones are expected to purchase something special to celebrate their relationships. Many fall back on the easy answer of a card and or chocolates. Let’s help shift the ideas of our friends and family and change “card” to “personal massage.” Nothing says “I love you” more clearly, than a warm, fantastically smelling massage.
